Terms of Service

Last updated

These terms govern your use of PyLearn at pylearnapp.com. Creating an account, or paying for one, means you accept them.

The agreement

This is a contract between you and the operator of PyLearn (“we”, “us”). It covers the website, the courses, the code editor, the AI tutor and everything else at pylearnapp.com. Our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and Refund & Cancellation Policy are part of it.

If you do not agree, do not create an account. If you are agreeing on behalf of a company, you are confirming you may bind it.

Your account

  • You must be at least 13. Between 13 and 16 in the EEA, a parent or guardian has to agree for you.
  • Give us a real email address. It is how we verify the account, reset your password and reach you about a payment, and an account with an address you cannot read is an account we cannot recover for you.
  • One account per person, and keep your password to yourself. What happens under your account is your responsibility until you tell us it has been compromised — write to support@pylearnapp.com the moment you think it has.
  • An account is personal: it is one person’s access, not a classroom, a team, or a login to pass around. That it costs nothing does not make it a shared one.

What you get

An account gets you all of it, at no charge: every course and lesson on both tracks, every quiz and project, every cheatsheet, unlimited quiz retries, and a downloadable certificate for each course you finish, along with your XP, badges and streaks. There is no paid tier, no trial to run out and no card to enter — see the pricing page.

Courses change. We edit lessons, fix exercises, add courses and occasionally retire one. We will not remove so much from a paid plan that it stops being what you paid for, but we do not promise that any particular lesson stays exactly as it is.

Payment and renewal

Nothing is charged for PyLearn at present. This section describes how payment works whenever a paid plan is offered, and governed the subscriptions that were sold before.

  • Prices are shown before you pay, in US dollars, and exclude any tax that your country adds.
  • A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period — monthly or yearly, whichever you chose — until you cancel it.
  • You can cancel at any time from your billing page. Cancelling stops the next charge; access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for.
  • If we change the price, we will email you first and the new price applies from your next renewal, never retroactively.
  • If a payment fails we will tell you and retry; if it keeps failing the subscription lapses and the paid courses re-lock. Nothing you earned is taken away — your progress, XP, badges and certificates stay.
  • Refunds and what happens to a part-used period are in the Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Acceptable use

Don’t:

  • Share, sell or publish the course material. Reading it is what you paid for; redistributing it is not.
  • Scrape the site, or automate access to it, beyond what a person reading lessons would do.
  • Share your login, or use one account for several people.
  • Try to break out of the Python sandbox, attack the servers, probe for vulnerabilities without telling us, or interfere with anyone else’s use of the site.
  • Use the AI tutor to generate anything unlawful, or hammer it with automated requests. It is a study aid, not an API.
  • Create extra accounts to get around a suspension, or to take something offered once per person more than once.

Security research is welcome if you tell us first and give us a chance to fix what you find. Write to support@pylearnapp.com.

Your code

The Python you write on PyLearn is yours. We claim no ownership of it and we will not use it to train a model.

We do need a narrow, practical licence to run the service: permission to store what you type, show it back to you, run the tests against it, and — if you use the tutor panel — send it to the model that answers you. That licence exists only to operate PyLearn for you, and it ends when you delete your account.

Anything you send us that is not code — a support message, a bug report, a suggestion — we may act on freely and without owing you anything for it.

Our courses

The lessons, exercises, tests, quizzes, projects, cheatsheets, illustrations and the software behind them belong to us or our licensors, and are protected by copyright. Your subscription is a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use them for your own learning.

You may of course use anything you learn — including the code from an exercise — in your own work, commercial or otherwise. What you may not do is republish the lesson material itself, or build a competing course out of it.

Certificates

A PyLearn certificate records that you completed a PyLearn course. It is not an accredited qualification, it is not issued by an educational institution, and it does not carry academic credit. We may revoke one that was obtained by cheating — by sharing an account, for instance.

The AI tutor

The tutor is a language model. It is often useful and it is sometimes confidently wrong, including about Python. Check what it tells you — the tests in the lesson are the authority, not the chat panel. We are not liable for anything you do on its advice.

It depends on third-party providers, so it may be slow, rate-limited or unavailable. Every lesson works without it, and no plan is sold on the basis of it.

Availability

We aim to keep PyLearn up and we do not offer a service-level guarantee. Maintenance happens, providers fail, and things break. If a paid plan is unusable for a meaningful stretch, write to us and we will make it right — the refund policy says how.

Ending it

You can stop at any time: cancel the subscription from your billing page, or delete the account entirely from the danger zone on your profile — on the website or in the iOS app. Deletion is immediate and takes your progress, submissions, certificates and sessions with it. If you cannot sign in to do it yourself, write to support@pylearnapp.com from the address on the account.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms — for serious or repeated breaches, and after warning you where the circumstances allow it. If we close a paid account for a reason that is not your fault, we refund the unused part of the period. If we close it for a breach, we do not.

Disclaimers

PyLearn is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, that every exercise is flawless, or that finishing a course will get you a job.

Nothing here excludes a liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer, you keep every right your local consumer law gives you, and these terms do not override them.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, neither party is liable to the other for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost profits or lost data, arising out of these terms.

Our total liability for any claim relating to PyLearn is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars. For a free account, that is fifty dollars.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which the operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute goes to the state or federal courts of that state, and we each consent to their jurisdiction. Write to support@pylearnapp.com if you need that named before you subscribe.

Before that, please write to us. Almost everything that looks like a dispute is a billing mistake or a misunderstanding, and both are faster to fix by email than by filing.

If a clause here turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stands. Not enforcing a term once does not waive it.

Changes to these terms

We update these terms as the service changes. The date at the top says when they last changed, and we will email you before a material change takes effect. Continuing to use PyLearn afterwards means you accept the new version; if you do not, cancel and tell us, and we will refund the unused part of your period.
