Questions & answers
How PyLearn works, what it costs, what happens to your code, and what to do when something breaks. If your question is not here, write to support@pylearnapp.com.
Getting started
Do I need to install Python?
No. PyLearn ships real CPython compiled to WebAssembly and runs it inside your browser, so there is nothing to download, nothing to configure and no version to get wrong. A recent Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge is the whole requirement.
Do I need an account?
Yes, to reach a lesson. It is free, it takes an email address and a password, and it is what stores your progress, your streak and your certificates so that closing the tab does not lose them.
Is it suitable for a complete beginner?
That is who it is for. Python Basics starts at printing a line of text and ends with a project you write yourself. If you already program, the later courses — data structures, files and errors, pandas, async APIs — are where the material stops being introductory.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
The lessons are readable on a phone, but writing code on a touch keyboard is miserable and the editor and console want room. Use a laptop or desktop for the exercises if you can.
How the lessons work
How is my code checked?
Every exercise carries hidden tests. When you press Check, your code runs in a fresh namespace and each test runs against it — calling your functions, reading your variables or comparing what you printed. A failing test tells you what it expected and what it got, and hints unlock as you keep trying.
What happens if I write an infinite loop?
It stops after five seconds. Python runs in a Web Worker separate from the page, so a runaway loop costs you a moment rather than the tab.
Can I use NumPy or pandas?
In the lessons that need them, yes. They are several megabytes each, so they are fetched only by the courses that use them and then kept for the rest of your visit. Arbitrary pip installs are not available — a browser has no package manager.
Is the AI tutor required?
No, and no plan is sold on the strength of it. It is a chat panel you can ask when you are stuck. Every lesson, exercise and test works with it closed, and it is the only part of PyLearn that sends anything you write to a third party.
Can I redo a lesson or a course?
Yes. Start over resets a course so you can work through it again. XP is only ever paid once for a lesson, so a second pass does not inflate your total, and nothing you earned is removed.
Price
What does PyLearn cost?
Nothing. All 12 courses and 108 lessons are free, along with every quiz, every project, every cheatsheet, unlimited quiz retries and a downloadable PDF certificate for each course you finish. There is no paid tier, no trial to run out and no card to enter.
Why do I need an account, then?
So your work has somewhere to live. Progress, XP, streaks, badges and certificates are stored against your account; without one there is nothing to save them to. It takes an email address and a password.
Is this going to become paid later?
Everything you have finished stays yours whatever happens: progress, XP, badges, streaks and certificates are never taken away or deleted. That has been true through every change to how PyLearn is funded and it is not something we would undo.
Do you want my card details?
No, and there is nowhere to enter them. Nothing on PyLearn takes a payment.
Your data
Can you see my code?
Your code is executed entirely in your browser — there is no execution server and nothing is run on our machines. What we do store is the last version of your code for each lesson and your project submissions, so that your work is still there when you come back. We do not read it for any other purpose and we do not train models on it.
Do you track me?
Only if you allow it, and only for advertising. There is no analytics package, no session recorder and no third-party cookie. PyLearn advertises on Facebook, Instagram and Google, so the first time you visit you are asked whether Meta’s pixel and Google’s conversion tag may load — they tell us an ad led to a sign-up. Say no and nothing loads; you can change your mind either way on the cookie policy page. Fonts and the Python runtime are served from our own domain, so loading a lesson tells nobody but us that you did.
Do you sell my data?
No, and there is no advertising on PyLearn to sell it for. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, which is the definition that matters under California law.
How do I delete my account?
Open your profile, scroll to the danger zone and choose "Delete my account". You will be asked to type your email address, and then it happens immediately — profile, progress, submissions, certificates, badges, notification history and every signed-in device. The same button is in the iOS app under Profile. Your address is freed for a new account. Records of any payment are kept, with your name detached from them, for as long as tax law requires. If you cannot sign in, write to support@pylearnapp.com from the address on the account.
When something goes wrong
I forgot my password.
Use the forgotten-password link on the sign-in page. Passwords are stored as one-way hashes, so nobody — including us — can look yours up; it can only be reset.
A lesson looks wrong, or a test fails when it should pass.
Tell us. The support form inside your account reaches a person rather than a queue, and a broken test is the kind of bug that gets fixed the same week.
How do I contact a human?
support@pylearnapp.com, or the support form inside your account. There is one person reading it, which is slower than a call centre and considerably more useful.
